Main Goals
Public safety organisations in Europe are facing a number of increasing challenges from different points of view:
- ICT technological changes, most often initiated outside the field of publics safety, such as cellular digital radio technologies (GSM,UMTS,wireless LAN,WAN,...) in the consumer market, or software based solutions in the business enterprise markets (Web services based), offer new opportunities to improve present public safety processes, increase the overall efficiency of their operations.
- Shifts in operational requirements, the need for increase cooperation between different organisation, at the local level (between co-localised Police, Fire or Medical services) or at inter-national level (for cross-border interventions, for major disasters that require teams from different European coutries to cooperate) open new challenges to the IT infrastructure of public safety users.
PEACE aims to react to the aforementioned challenges by proposing technological
solutions that are in-line with the ICT strategic objectives for
"Objective ICT-SEC-2007.1.7: Critical Infrastructure Protection" (Joint Call
between ICT and Security Themes FP7-ICT-SEC-2007-1 ).
The key S and T objectives can be described in terms of four major key goals:
- Next generation Emergency communication system
- Secure and Reliable Networking Infrastructure for emergency management systems
- Emergency Risk Management and coordination system
- P2P VoIP/Video communications over autonomic wireless infrastructure
